🍽 Key Ingredients
All you need for the best-ever ground and potato hash is a few pantry staples and a skillet.
Potatoes - Diced potatoes are the main ingredient in this dish to give it that bulk and substance.
Ground Beef - The lean ground beef is what gives this dish its protein and hearty flavor. You can use any ground beef, but we prefer ground chuck because it's Flavorful and has good fat content.
Green bell pepper and onion - The green pepper and onion add a touch of sweetness and flavor to the dish.
Eggs - The eggs are what bind all of the ingredients together and give the dish its fluffy texture.
Seasonings - We season this dish with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to give it a little bit of heat. You can adjust the seasonings to taste.
Vegetable oil - Vegetable oil is used to cook potatoes, beef, and eggs.
Substitutions
Oil
You can use any type of oil, like olive oil, canola oil, and even butter, but we prefer vegetable oil because it has a higher smoke point.
Beef
If you're not a fan of beef, you can substitute ground turkey, chicken, or sausage.
Additional seasonings
If you want to add more spices to your potato hash to give it more flavor, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika or garlic powder are great additions, and also a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce will give it a nice depth of flavor.

💭 Cooking tips
Cutting the potatoes
It's important to cut the potatoes into small equal-sized cubes so that they cook quicker and at the same time. The bigger you cut them, the longer it will take to get them nice and soft.
Remove the starch from potatoes
Place the diced potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them sit for 30 minutes to remove some of the starch. This will prevent the potatoes from sticking to the skillet.
Add liquid
If you want to add some liquid to your ground beef and potatoes skillet recipe, you can add ½ cup of beef broth. The liquid will help the potatoes cook quicker and add extra flavor.
📖 Recipe Variations
There are many variations of this ground beef and potatoes recipe, and although this original recipe is the best, you can add other flavors to it. Here are a few recommendations:
Sausage hash
Add 1 or 2 chopped Italian sausages to your hash for a meatier variation. Cook the sausage with the ground beef.
Bacon hash
Crispy bacon enhances this beef and potato hash recipe with its crispy texture and salty flavor. Cook 8 rashers of bacon in the skillet until crispy and use a slotted spoon to remove them, then cook the potatoes in the bacon fat. Chop the bacon and mix them into the hash at the end before serving.
Sweet potato hash
For a sweeter variation, substitute sweet potatoes for regular potatoes. The cooking time will be less as sweet potatoes take less time to soften than white potatoes.
Cheesy ground beef and potato hash
For a delicious melty cheese hash, pour the mixture into a baking dish and top with 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Bake in a hot oven (350F) for 5 minutes until the cheese melts.

Lucy
I added some habanero peppers and a splash of Cholula for some kick.
Also did use a little beef broth to the pre meat mix bc the potatoes are up all of the oil.
We dig it. Easy to remember and make.
It's nice to mix breakfast up:)
